Learn About Our Rich History
On March 14, 1890, on a site known as the Old Brickyard, the Holy Spirit inspired Reverend Andrew Jackson and a few others to organize a church. Though we are commonly called First Union, the original church was known as First Union Missionary Baptist Church. Today, we are still known as First Union; however, our officially registered name is First Union Missionary Baptist Church Inc. From the Old Brickyard until now, First Union has continually sung God’s praises, testified of His goodness, and served the Frog Town community.
Saint Luke Baptist Church and Tremont Temple Baptist Church, two powerful ministries operating in the city of Savannah, were birthed out of First Union. Additionally, Christ Memorial Baptist Church (Pastor Larry Broxton), A New Beginning Baptist Church (Pastor Stanley Royal) and Mount Hermon Baptist Church (Pastor Andre Kicklighter) are led by associate ministers of First Union Missionary Baptist Church Inc.
With multiple choirs and a praise and worship team, First Union is composed of deacons and deaconess, missionaries, a youth ministry, a brotherhood, ushers, an outreach team and a humble ministerial staff. We are proud of our rich history and are excited about our promised future.
